Interviewing New Teachers

By Marcos Urcino, December 6th 2024

Here at East High School, I had got the chance to interview some of the new teachers that work here at east and some of these teachers are in fact my teacher.

Just a disclaimer the teachers I interviewed have been teaching at least for a span of 1 to 3 years.

The first teacher I intervened was English teacher Amanda Ott or students know her as Ms. Ott.

The questions I asked her were “how do you like east for the time you been here”? she then had answered “East is a very nice and easy school to teach I love teaching here”.

I then asked her do you have any policy and what were some policies from her old school that east has but that school didn’t. She said hall sweeps were new to her but everything else was the same.

I then asked her what policy she wants to see a change in. She said one change she wants is a change to the tardy policy because how students just walk past her classroom making a lot of noise disturbing her class.

The next teacher I interviewed was Nicholas Green, the replacement math teacher Lisett Sierra also known as Ms. Sierra. Mr. green is the new math teacher due to Ms. Sierra having to go on a Maternity leave.

I have asked Mr. Green the same questions about how his experience was at East. He then stated, “So far I have loved teaching to the kids, and it has been an awesome time”.

I then had asked him if he would ever see himself becoming a full-time teacher here at east and he said “I could see myself working here eventually but for now I will stick with my substitution for teachers”

I then had asked what a policy was that east has that his last school didn’t, and it was the hall pass situation. A lot of teachers have a rule of only using it for less than 10 minutes and that was a shocking new policy starting.

My last interview was Joshua Carver or Mr. Carver for us students the one behind it all for East high schools' news and updates around the world.

I first asked him how his experience has been here, and he said “I like it here its different than other schools” I then asked him to diver deeper in that and he likes it because east follows the movement for BLM but at some other schools they don’t allow that and it's also a big school.

A different policy from his old school was hall sweeps once again; he thinks it’s a good rule because students will start actually going to class more.

Lastly if he could make a change to any rule, it would be the policy for attendance “he finds it weird how east just lets kids be late or skip”.

But overall, a lot of the newer teachers like it here at east high and mostly the change they would like to see change is the rules of attendance and tardies, but east is starting to take control of that, hopefully our new teachers will be satisfied once the policy changes.
