Pink Week
By Giselle Arechiga, October 22nd 2024
The month of October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, started in October of 1985 as a way to raise awareness and gain funding for research for a cure.
What is pink week?
This year's National Honor Society is raising awareness to breast cancer and the millions of women affected by it. From October 22nd to the 25th, NHS is having different activities throughout the week for students to show their East High support. At the end of the month, they will be delivering your personal cards made during both lunches to the Huntsman center to breast cancer patients.
Why is it important?
I had the opportunity to speak with, Yamato Lerwill, secretary of the National Honors Society, about East Highs first ever pink week.
“As a service club we are constantly looking for different service projects to provide service to those in need”
Yamato added that while it is the first time East is participating in pink week it will certainly not be the last.
“We wanted to show the many struggling with breast cancer that they are not alone in their battle, while it may not mean much coming from me alone, we as a community have the strength to motivate them as they continue to fight against cancer”
The National Honor Society has worked tirelessly to organize various activities and events, ensuring students and faculty can come together as a community to make a positive impact. So, don’t forget to check out different ways you can participate.
