Salt Lake City Neighborhood Reborn

The Silos is the latest development underway to convert a once gritty section of Salt Lake City's Granary District into a lively new neighborhood. The 8.5-acre project, west of downtown, will include apartments, shops, restaurants, and a hotel. The developers will build around 740 new homes, including some affordable housing units, in an attempt to meet the growing demand for places to live in the city. A key attraction will be Silo Park, a green space designed for outdoor relaxation, found next to historic flour mills and grain silos that the developers are committed to preserving. This approach allows the neighborhood to support its historical charm while integrating modern designs.
At Silos South Apartments, the primary structure is a five-level multifamily building with approximately 275 rental units. This is also to be fitted out with a parking garage situated at a depth for approximately 425 cars to help clear the space and prevent an unpleasant-looking surrounding from full occupancy. Street renovation to be done around The Silos where old billboards will also be taken down and lines underground. These improvements are part of a larger vision for "Grand Boulevards" that will beautify Salt Lake City. Local business owners, like Rimini Coffee, are excited about the increased foot traffic and customers the development will bring.
Sienna Mapa, a Salt Lake City resident, had this to say about the project: "I'm very excited about Silo Park, I think it's great for our community and the surrounding neighborhoods to come together and enjoy the new amenities it has to offer." She also emphasized the importance of affordable housing: "Affordable housing is very important, especially in these high-rising inflations we've all been facing. I hope that it is addressed because our community of low-income households are currently struggling with day-to-day life." Construction of The Silos will be done in three phases, with more condominiums (condos) and shops planned for the future. Overall, The Silos is a tremendous change for Salt Lake City in a combination of historic preservation and modern living that will create community.
