The Freshmen Experience at East High

I asked freshmen three questions about high school how they feel about it and the new transition. What they expected high school to be like and what their favorite activity was so far, I asked multiple students these questions and they all gave great and interesting answers.
The first student I asked about the transition and school year so far had this to say, “It’s going smooth, and I was expecting high school to be scary, and my favorite school activity so far is talking to people in classes or like group work.” I think most students would agree with the part of it going well most students love the high school experience.
This next student told us their difficulties this school year and how it’s going and said, “I’ve loved high school so far, it’s better than middle school. Unfortunately, the classes are longer, and my favorite activity is soccer.” This student and I can relate on the whole liking soccer part I really enjoy soccer as well especially playing it for this school.
The next student I interviewed said this about the transition and the difficulties of entering a new school with a new system. This is what the student had to say “The new transition to high school is going good so far, I like that school starts later and that classes are longer, it’s a little bit harder for me to stay engaged in what I am learning since the classes are longer, but I also think it’s better because I learn more and just have more time in each class. I was expecting high school to be hard and like very strict, but it really isn’t, high school is just bigger than middle school. Nothing really changed except that your grades matter because you need to get all your credits, but as long as you get everything done you will be okay. My favorite activity in high school so far is playing a sport. I play soccer for East, and it is fun. You get to meet new people and make new friends that enjoy the same sport you do. It also helps become better at something you love by having multiple games each week and practicing often.” This student thought what most students think that it will be extremally hard and difficult, and that it would be stressful, but like she says, high school is just bigger than middle school and your grades matter now.
Our next student I can tell that she likes talking to her friends and she said this, “It’s going very good so far; its very difficult and hard to understand but I really enjoy going to lunch and avid.” I can really relate to the going to lunch and favorite class because I can talk and get help from my friends doing different things like different assignments and projects. I know I can rely on my friends to always help me.
