Welding For East
By Marcos Urcino, November 25th 2024
Here at East High school, the school allows you to take CTC classes CTC stands for Career Technical Center.
I have taken a CTC class, and the class is welding. is an entry level course that will teach basic welding skills.
This course will prepare students to apply technical knowledge and skill in the workplace and in project construction.
“In this course, students will learn to practice knowledge, Attitude skills, and habits required for performing tasks autonomously including the selection and use of appropriate techniques and equipment with minimum supervision” as stated from her course description
For those who don’t know what welding is, Welding is a crucial process used in various industries, from construction to manufacturing, and even in the automotive field.
At its core, welding involves joining materials, typically metals or thermoplastics, by applying heat, pressure, or both.
One of the primary methods of welding is arc welding, which uses an electric arc to melt the materials at the joint. This method is widely used due to its versatility and effectiveness.
The Welding experience is not actually at East high school students will be transported through bus transportation and will be dropped off at Highland high school.
The one behind it all is Denise Hevner or know as to the students as Ms. Hevner. Ms. Hevner has been in the welding industry for over a decade, and I had a chance to interview her.
I had asked her what drives her to keep doing welding and being able to teach it she then states, “Welding has always been my career point ever since I have started it”.
She then adds on “Being able to share it with the students is very fun and I can share what I love to the next generation of welders”.
I follow up with, does she ever think about not teaching students and really go out and work for good companies where she could make more money, and follow her passion.
Hevner states that “What I’m doing right now is what I want to keep doing and I love teaching these kids a thing I love and hope they make it far with welding.”
Overall welding is a super fun class to take and do throughout your high school year no matter what grade you are in. Welding will always be a fun class to take, and students will definitely have a fun time with this class.
