Batman and Spider-Man: Overused?
By Marcelino Acosta, March 10th 2025
Batman and Spider-Man are two of the most iconic superheroes with their popularity spiking in the early 2000’s but with them gaining popularity these 2 characters have become overused with new movies and tv shows coming out for the both of them. Both of these characters have different stories and many different movie and TV show reboots or new series.
Batman was created in 1939 by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, these 2 have made one of the most popular fictional characters of today. Batman has become one of the faces of DC, with Batman being popular, it seems that he always has new movies, tv shows, and comics releasing for him with the next batman project being The Batman II a sequel to The Batman.
Similar to Spider-Man created in 1962 by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko has become an even bigger star for Marvel. With multiple tv shows, comics, movies, and different variants for the character. With Spider-Man being a popular hero they've had to changer movie actors 3 times from Tobey Maguire to Andrew Garfield to Tom Holland making the story told with different variations. With the reuse of this character all the time with the constant reboots new tv shows and different stories being told or spin-off movies such as Spider-Man into the Spider-Verse.
With these 2 characters their popularity began to rise in the 2000’s with Spider-Mans trilogy starting in 2002 starring Tobey Maguire. Then Batman Begins in 2005 with this starring Christian Bale which was also a trilogy. Then Spider-Man reboots in 2012 with The Amazing Spider-man with this starring Andrew Garfield only making 2 movies. In 2016 Captain America: Civil War puts Spider-Man into the MCU with the actor being Tom Holland. After 20 years a new Batman reboot was released in 2022 called The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as Batman.
Each of these Reboots being between Spider-Man and Batman matter because they have their own unique ways on telling a different but same story with the same character. Like for Batman 2005, this brings a serious and mature take to Batman. While in Batman 2022, this brought Batman's detective skills, and it makes the movie feel more realistic to if it happened in the real world.
While these characters have been overused in making movies and tv shows these characters should be shown less because some people might get tired of seeing the same characters all the time.
