By Julie Lin, January 24th 2025

Term 3 has offically begun with the rush of students storming to fix their schedules for second semester, stress and confusion is bound to happen in this type of environment. It’s a good heads up to know what kind of events are going to appear and how to handle stressful situations!

Class Registration

Current seniors are getting ready to face the responsibilities past highschool, but for the others registration for next year classes are rolling in quick.

Juniors on January 27, 2025, will go ahead and choose their classes in one of their periods based on their first intial of their last name. Sophomores follow on January 28, 2025 and lastly Freshmen on Janauary 29, 2025. If you missed the date, you can make up on January 30, 2025.

For juniors and sophomores, it is advisable to prioitize choosing the classes that will fill your requirements to graduate. Credit recovery is always there for those who are missing any credits.

March 12, 2025 – the date of ACT testing for all juniors. It can definitely be nerve wracking knowing that the date is coming by day by day but our school has provided with ACT prep in the libarary on January 29 at 3:20 PM.

Grab your Number 2 pencil, calculator (must be the right kind), photo of identificaton. Still unsure or anxious to bring the wrong thing? Ask your counselor or teachers for further information or go to https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/test-day.html.

If you’re really nervous, here are some seniors giving us their own tips and tricks into figuring out how to prepare for the test:

Josh Freedman- “ I hve ADHD, so I don’t really do good in state testing but what helped me was taking practice tests and getting to really know the format.”

Mae Kingsford - “I think the biggest thing is to start early and to figure out how the way the test structures the tests and everything”

Hannah Abdi-daad - “Definitely go to College board and Khan Academy”

Diana Mayorga Corado - “ I recommend asking Ms.Shelton or Profe for the old ACT packets and study off of that, that’s what I did.”

Theater also presents us with The Litte Mermaid on February 20-24, 2025., at 7:00 PM. Go see their amazing work for only $5 when presented your student ID.

Checking up on your Mental Health

It’s important to know that depression has been prevalant in adolescents younger than 17 throughout 2024. We’ve already finished a semester of classes which for many have been exhausting and hard for many, here are some suggestions to take a break!

  • Take a walk around the park or neighborhood

  • Napping until you’re confused if it’s morning or night

  • Treat yourself with a comfy meal or a nice little snack

  • Listening to your favorite songs

  • Scratch and scribble on paper

Understand that progression is not linear at all, and these and other activities may not change anything but remember that you’re trying your hardest in getting through tough days and little steps are better than none.
