Walmart Employee Burned Alive in Bakery Oven
By Marcos Medina Cortes, October 30th 2024
19-year-old Walmart employee Gursimran Kaur was found dead inside one of Walmart’s Walk-in ovens on October 19, 2024, in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada.
Kaur Gursimran and her mother had been working for Walmart for about 2 years before this devastating event took place. During this specific shift where they had been working together, Gursimran’s Mother went looking for her after she hadn’t seen her daughter for an hour. Not answering her phone, which she found unusual because Gursimran always answered her mother.
The mother eventually found her daughter inside the oven in the bakery after a few hours, her body charred. Kaur, originally from India, was "a young beautiful girl who came to Canada with big dreams”.
Police stated “The investigation is complex and involves several partner agencies. An investigation of this nature may take a significant amount of time.” What makes this case so “complex” is the fact that Walmart’s Walk-in ovens don’t just close on their own.
Various Walmart employees across the nation are giving their chilling insight in how the walk-in oven works. The walk-in oven turns on from the outside, and the door handle must be pulled “really hard” one Walmart employee comments, in order to open it. And trying to fit into it is its own problem, “I don't even know if I would fit in here, I'm 5 foot 1, medium built. I would have to crouch down to get in.” Chris Breezie Walmart employee on TikTok states.
She also goes on to show that for the oven to close and lock, “you have to push the latch with all your might and pull the handle to the side and lock it in place.”
Another TikTok by a Walmart employee demonstrated stepping inside of the walk-in oven and utilizing the emergency release from the inside of the oven, showing that it is a simple push feature on the other side of the door.
The Walmart superstore remains closed for more than a week on after the tragedy.
A dispatch call revealed that there was a 'female employee locked in an oven in the bakery.'
“Oven is on. Unsure if staff can turn it off,” the dispatch officer stated.
Someone noticed leakage coming from the oven.
None can imagine the trauma and horror her mother has from being the one to have opened the oven to her daughters remains.
Walmart Officials state “We're also supporting our associates during this incredibly difficult time and have provided access to 24/7 virtual care and will provide on-site support, including grief counselling.”
It is now November there are still many questions that remain unanswered. My deepest condolences to the Gursimran Family.
